Statement on misuse

Jistory documents what was done to Jews.

The expulsions, massacres, forced conversions and discriminatory laws recorded here are evidence of persecution by rulers, mobs, churches and states. They are not evidence of anything Jews did.

About expulsions

Expulsions record persecution of Jews, not wrongdoing by Jews. Many followed false accusations; others were driven by the cancellation of debts owed to Jews, by religious coercion, or by rulers looking for someone to blame.

Counting entries does not produce a meaningful number. The same community can appear many times, a city is not a country, and the record is incomplete. Using a count of expulsions to suggest that Jews deserved them is an antisemitic argument. The "109 countries" claim is a white-supremacist slogan, not history (ADL). For that reason Jistory does not show a total count of expulsions anywhere.
