About Jistory
Jewish history, one year at a time.
Jistory is a searchable timeline of how rulers, churches, and nations treated the Jewish people across almost three millennia. Type a year, and Jistory returns the events from that year: the expulsion from England in 1290, the expulsion from Spain in 1492, the pogroms, the ghettos, the decrees, and the readmissions that followed. Each entry names who carried it out, where it happened, and links to its source, so you can read further.
Purpose
Jistory is a free, non-commercial project for remembrance and education. It makes the scale and persistence of antisemitism visible, names those responsible, and points readers to authoritative sources. It documents what was done to Jews; see the statement on misuse.
Content note
This site describes massacres, torture, forced conversion, genocide and the false accusations that provoked them. Descriptions are brief and factual, but many are distressing.
Who runs it
Jistory is run by an individual volunteer, who is responsible for its content. Many summaries were drafted with AI assistance and are not individually reviewed; see How entries are made and our editorial principles. Corrections and questions: [email protected].
